In West Flanders you will find the town of Blankenberge. This town is one of the many coastal towns that you will find in the country of Belgium. While many people do come to Blankenberge for a sun and sand holiday there are other sights and activities that you can do while you are here. One interesting sight that you will find in town is that of 350 meter long pier which was constructed here in 1933.

Before you look at the various interesting sightseeing activities that you can do you may be interested in some of the festivals and famous inhabitants of this town. The festivals that you will encounter when you visit Blankenberge are the 2 day Marching Event which occurs every first weekend of May. Another great festival to see is that of the Flower Parade which occurs annually during the last Sunday in August. You could if you prefer see the Carnival Parade or that of the Klankenberge Festival.

Some well known people in history that you can find from Blankenberge are Rudi Pillen who is a Belgian Contemporary painter and Brian Vandenbussche who is a Belgian goalkeeper. You also have Frans Masereel who was born in the town of Blankenberge in 1889. He was a Flemish woodcutter and painter. Another historical figure who lived and died in Blankenberge is that of Adolf Eugen Fick. Fick was the inventor of contact lenses.

While knowing these facts can be quite interesting you may be more interested in what you can find here in Blankenberge. Well first off you might enjoy visiting the Sea Life Center. Here you will be able to see many different sea creatures and if you are lucky then you can even have the chance of getting up close to a few.

Another great place for you to visit in Blankenberge is that of the Reptilian House. Here you will see many different reptiles like snakes, chameleons, and there are also numerous spider varieties that you will be able to see. Each of these animals will be housed in enclosures which mimic their natural habitat. While you may have to look beyond their camouflaging techniques you will gain a better appreciation of these animals.

While sightseeing is one of the better ways to get acquainted with a country there is nothing more interesting and fun to see than the various festivals which can take place in that country. In Blankenberge if you choose to come during the summer months you may be lucky enough to see an artist working on a masterpiece. This masterpiece however will take place on the resort’s beaches as it is a sand creation. These creations are part of the Sand Festival and during that time you will see various artists creating magnificent sand sculptures which will take your breath away.

Having read all of this you may wonder why you are still at home instead on the beaches and the town of Blankenberge. If that is the case don’t worry all you need to do is start packing your bags and come post haste to Blankenberge. Then make sure that you plan on having a great time here.
